doula training scholarship application bebo mia

Some of you have been sharing your Spring anticipation photos on Instagram… watching little shoots of green coming through the ground is exciting and we are living vicariously through anyone who is not shovelling mountains of snow like we are in Toronto. We have to trust that we will see grass again soon. In the meantime, we definitely know Spring is coming because we are opening up the application process to our scholarship program! We have already opened registration for our Maternal Support Practitioner (aka doula) training & certification which starts March 22nd, 2018!

As we come into our 17th class for Spring 2018, we are bursting excited about how our program has grown and matured over the years.

Our training is live & online and has been built on four foundational pillars. They are: teaching excellence, cultivating community, ongoing mentorship and holistic advocacy.

Our mission is to connect women* to their intrinsic value & power. One of the ways we aim to do this is by offering the most comprehensive combined fertility, birth & postpartum doula training! Our team of instructors are diverse and fun and super interesting. Collectively we are committed to changing the landscape of birth experiences across the globe. By improving birth outcomes together, we can help deepen the connections of families and decrease the occurrence of postpartum mood disorders.

Our team offers intensive support throughout the entire process. Nervous about your first client in labour? We are right there next to you! Reach out and we will talk to you to get you ready! Not sure how to market your business? We will help you with that too!

Our doula training is so much more than providing you with the skills you will need to do doula work. It is a community. It is a group of cheerleaders. It is a squad in your corner – it’s some legit #squadgoals.

We know that not everyone can afford the education necessary for their dream career. Globally, women, especially women with children in their care, miss out on educational opportunities which could lead to an earning potential. This is something that we are working to overcome at bebo mia inc.

One of the other ways our mission impacts the world is that we believe that education, especially education that will support your income, is power.

Each year bebo mia inc. offers scholarship placements to women in financial need so that they can complete our Maternal Support Practitioner training and launch their doula careers.

We have 2 amazing sponsors for this session, and more on the way. Each sponsor provides a place in the program to a no or low income woman* and provides them with the opportunity to grow a profitable career to take care of themselves and their families.

Our first scholarship is the Olivia Scobie Perinatal Mental Health Scholarship sponsored by Olivia Scobie Counseling. Olivia Scobie, MSW, RSW, MA, ACC, MSP is a postpartum social work counsellor who specializes in perinatal mood, birth trauma, and maternal mental health. She is also the founder of Postpartum Support Toronto. She believes in good scotch, telling your story, and supporting families through difficult times.
The recipient of this scholarship will be prioritized to people who survived or have a special interest in working with parents with mood disorders.
The second scholarship is the Stages Doula and Birth Photography’s Bad Ass Scholarship sponsored by Stages Doula and Birth Photography. The founder of Stages is Candice and she is the mother of 3 beautiful children. Candice has a background in Sign language interpretation & behaviour intervention. After having a doula attend the birth of her 3 children, she decided to peruse doula work. Candice has been supporting families for 6 years, she has trained as a doula, infant sleep educator, birth photographer and breastfeeding educator. Candice enjoys hiking, reading and general mischief making.
Candice would like the recipient to have an interest in supporting loss or a rainbow in some way. This is MOST important to her, as she would love to have more loss doulas out there. The recipient should have a passion for supporting the whole family, and are full of bad-assery.
The third scholarship is the #bebobabes Bursary provided by bebo mia inc. We are committed to ensuring women* around the world get the education and cheerleaders behind them so they can have access to a business opportunity that will support their families and communities while doing something they love.

Our next Maternal Support Practitioner training session begins Thursday March 22nd, 2018 at 7pm EST. Our training runs for 13 weeks (12 weeks plus a bonus week!) and covers fertility, pregnancy, the postnatal period AND business. All of the classes are live and online, so you can interact, ask questions, and make sure you are confident with the material. With our training taking place online it eliminates the need and costly expense for care for your children while you are in class, and did we mention the live classes are also recorded?

You get to listen anytime, anywhere, which is the ideal fit for a busy schedule.

Community is such a crucial aspect of our training. The women who have graduated from our program are from all over the world and yet there is a constant feeling of closeness and connection in our classes and exclusive Facebook support group.

We all give and receive an incredible amount of information and praise as we go through the training and beyond. It never feels like we are separated by hundreds or thousands of miles.

How do you apply? Just complete this application and let us know why you should receive a full scholarship. All entries must be received by March 9th before midnight EST to be considered. We will be reviewing them and announcing our winner on March 15th, 2018.

Head over to our Facebook page and ‘Like’ us to get the notifications about the winner, as well as lots of other great information!

Know someone that would be a great candidate? Please pass on this link, we would love to hear from them.

Want to meet a coupe of last year’s winners? Check out the posts from Tarina & Brigic. They are all doing so well starting their doula businesses and we could not be more proud of them!

If you have any questions for us, just comment below and we will get you your answers.

We want to note that in order to complete the bebo mia inc. doula training, applicants will need access to a computer and high speed internet for streaming the classes.

*We use the term ‘women’ in our mission and through some of our values work. We define women as women-identified, femme-presenting, two-spirited, genderqueer, trans-inclusive, gender-non-conforming, androgynous, agender, intersex, bigender, gender questioning, gender fluid, butch, non-binary, queer positive or any person that would like to be included in this definition.
